?Apple also released a firmware update for iPod touch, bringing it in line with version 2.2 updates for iPhone released a little while ago.?Not quite: this update doesn?t include any of the ?enhancements to Maps? that the iPhone update includes.Hopefully it just means that they couldn?t finish them in time for the release. Remember that when the iPod touch was first launched you couldn?t add calendar events until a few updates later.

I was wondering about that … I couldn't tell if I was just too tired to get Google Street View to work, or if Apple didn't include it in the update. Looks like the latter is true.I've updated the story. Thanks for your comment!

I gotta say… Even though I own an iPhone now–I upgraded from a 1G touch–I still find it a low blow for Apple to not keep touch users on an even keel. I'm pretty sure by now that these unequal update have less to do with Sarbanes-Oxley and more to do with pure marketing. I feel like lately that Apple has been abandoning their old credo of supply the best possible products and are becoming more of generic corporation more concerned with the bottom line and churning out profits. I'm not saying their products aren't awesome, just not the standards I would expect from Apple.P.S. - I'm on my third iPhone 3G and it has a mushy home button, several stuck pixels, and an uneven screen. I'm also writing this on an aluminum PowerBook that only recognizes one RAM slot (common issue) and is on its second hard drive.

Today, the media streaming service Orb announced their official iPhone application, OrbLive 2.0, allowing you to stream your media files across multiple devices via 3G, EDGE or Wi-Fi. The last incarnation of OrbLive was launched before the App Store was introduced; thus requiring a jailbroken iPhone. The official application allows for a more intuitive and streamlined experience instead of the traditional browser interface. It'll save you time from syncing all of those files that you claim don't exist buried in the dim recesses of your hard drive, giving you just a lil' more "special time." Eh, let's try not to forget special time doesn't mean it's "share-with-everyone-around-me" time, shall we? Not unless it involves physical interaction. [MarketWatch]

That was fast. It's barely Nov. 21 and the iPhone 2.2 update is here, all 246MB of it, as promised. Included in the update, according to the release notes and as we'd heard, are all the new Google Maps features we've been waiting for like Street View (which is so far butter smooth and delicious over Wi-Fi, slightly less magical over 3G), public transit and walking directions, as well as over-the-air podcast downloads, mail enhancements, Safari tweaks, improved sound quality for visual voicemail, fewer dropped calls (again), and more. But you know, not MMS or copy and paste. Grab it now.

It's here. Google Street View and over the air Podcast downloads from iTunes. Yup, public transit and walking directions too and the ability to share your location via email. Bug fixes, Safari enhancements, the ability to toggle auto-text correction, and plenty more... just like we heard in the pre-rumor run-up. Now get outta here, your iTunes update awaits.

Update: Added some screenshots of the most notable new features after the break. The Street View implementation seems solid though we miss the compass feature found on T-Mobile's G1. Also, the real-estate saved by moving the Google search field next to the URL field in Mobile Safari is a welcome and obvious change. As to auto-correction, well, that's personal taste. Tipster Vizcaya also noticed that Apple added a new option to rate an App when you delete it from your phone.

[Thanks Gustavo and badburro]

We here at Gizmodo have been getting interesting missives from several readers about how AT&T's 3G network has just plumb broke in several areas, like Boston and Hawaii. Any calls made to an iPhone 3G goes straight to voicemail, but with no notification to the iPhone owner. Switching back to the Edge/2G network will get the phone to start acting normally again.

I connected with Apple Tier 2 support and we conference called into AT&T. They claimed that it was my device (never had a problem until this point) and that before they would put in another ticket I had to test my SIM card in another non iPhone 3G AT&T device. If that behaved properly then they said Apple should replace the unit. If the problems returned with the new iPhone then and only then, will they submit it to "voice tech" whatever the hell that is.

They claim no known issues, but I asked a stranger at Starbucks today whom I noticed had a 3G if he was having the same issues, and before I could even finish my question he described the same symptoms had been happening all week. This is along with five collegues/friends. So far this has gone under the radar and AT&T is denying any problems. The last tech insisted it wasn't the network but instead a slew of "all-the-sudden" faulty iPhone 3Gs. He claimed since my phone rang on his end and that he could leave a voicemail "it was there" the phone just wasn't getting it, yet somehow that's not a network problem?

It seems like this isn't a nation-wide thing, but there's enough complaints out there to determine that this probably isn't because of the iPhone either. How's it looking to everyone?

-Thanks Eric and Aaron!

Any calls made to an iPhone 3G goes straight to voicemail, but with no notification to the iPhone owner. Switching back to the Edge/2G network will get the phone to start acting normally again. While that sucks, the biggest problem seems to be getting AT&T to admit that anything is wrong in the first place.

Yeah... AT&T, here's the rub. We're hearing that your 3G network's down all over the place, from Boston to Hawaii. Even if you can't get a fix out right away, the first step to recovery is actually being able to tell people you have a problem. -Thanks Eric and Aaron!
