Since Time Warner customers can stream live TV to their laptops, it will be much easier to use it as another TV. The only problem I see with the computer app is the same with all of the other Time Warner apps; you can’t take it out of the home to use it. I take my laptop with me everywhere, so if I’m going to use the site, I would like for it to work everywhere. On my laptop, I like using DISH Online to watch my shows. Like the Time Warner computer site, I can watch live TV on my laptop and turn it into an additional TV. Where it differs is in the ability to watch TV wherever I am. I can even stream movies on demand whenever I want as I subscribe to HBO. Since I have a 922 SlingLoaded receiver as well, I can watch anything that I have recorded to my DVR on my laptop. It is very convenient being able to stream whether it is on lunch at DISH where I work or at the library waiting for class to start. Time Warner’s computer app does sound beneficial to a point, but the lack of remote streaming leaves room for huge improvement.

I would say that streaming is the future. Time Warner’s attempt at a TV Everywhere app is a good one, but it still falls short in many areas. You can’t stream anything you have on your DVR, so that’s out. You can’t even stream away from home. What kind of TV Everywhere app won’t let you watch TV everywhere? Reading about all of these and more disadvantages makes me glad that I have the DISH Remote Access app from DISH. It lets me stream live TV and recorded shows from my 922 SlingLoaded receiver to my iPhone or iPad wherever I am. Best of all, I can stream anywhere I am, even at DISH where I work or at school. Streaming is the future, and I think DISH has fully embraced it.

I’m sure that TWC subscribers with iPhones are relieved that the TWC TV app for the iPhone isn’t as lousy as the app for the Android. However, both apps still need a lot of work if they’re going to compete with the DISH Remote Access app. The DISH Remote Access app allows users to watch their entire TV channel lineup LIVE including their DVR recordings on their mobile devices. I’ve been using the DRA app since I started working for DISH over a year ago, and it’s become my most favorite app while I travel. Unlike the TWC TV app, the DRA app allows me the freedom to travel outside of my home with my video entertainment and watch it anywhere I have access to Wi-Fi or mobile 3G network.

I like that Time Warner has the app available for iPhone users. Not everyone has an iPad. The only problem I see that is the same as their iPad app is the lack of streaming outside of their home network. I guess it’s expected that I’m not as impressed as everyone else is, since I’ve gotten used to using the DISH Remote Access app from DISH on my iPhone and iPad. Last week, I was in Vegas for the CES, and the hotel I was at didn’t have what I liked to watch. So I took out my iPad, opened the DISH Remote Access app, then watched the last two episodes of Saturday Night Live that I had recorded to my DVR. If I had the Time Warner app, I couldn’t even think of doing this, let alone watching live TV. Whether I am on my way to work at DISH, or at school, I love streaming, and the DISH Remote Access app lets me do it just about anywhere.
