If you're like me, then you have around 7 home screens. It's annoying to flip back and forth between them to find the Apple apps, which are normally stored on the first home screen.

With the introduction of the new iPhone/iPod touch 2.2 firmware, you now have the ability to jump to the first home screen with one click. No matter which screen you're on, just click the home button again. You will instantly be shuttled back to the first screen. Now you'll never have to flip again.

Last month TUAW pointed you to a video of a relational database application for iPhone and iPod touch: HanDBase. DDH Software, developers of HandDBase, announced immediate availability of the program in the iTunes App Store.

At US$9.99, HanDBase (click opens iTunes) isn't cheap, but when you consider that it can be used to create custom iPhone database applications to track just about anything in your life, it begins to look like a bargain. HanDBase has been a popular product in the mobile computing space for years, and HanDBase aficionados have uploaded over 2,000 applets (database templates) to the HanDBase applet gallery for free download by other users.

Over the past three weeks, I've been test driving HanDBase for iPhone / iPod touch.

Read on for a full review of the app.

I have found one extremely annoying change to the 2.2 upgrade. Previously, on 2.1, if I had told the iPhone that when the screen is locked not to display the SMS Preview, all it would say was New Text Message. Now, however, they've changed it. It shows the person's name, and then underneath it “New Text Message”. This is an awful change. The whole point was so that in the case that my phone is hanging around or someone is holding it, they won't know who the text is from or what it says. This totally defeats the purpose because I don't want people reading the text OR knowing who it's from at all…

Podcast features are weak in the upgrade. While you can get newer episodes, if you sync frequntly, the “get more episodes” link only shows you what you've already read. Plus, weakest part here, you only have that option IF you have at least one podcast synced. E.g., I have 30+ podcasts in my subscription list. Today's sync loaded 4 of them. That means I can only check for updates on those 4, not my whole subscription list.Apple chose not to give us any management of our podcast lists, or ability to check for updates for all subscriptions. To me the podcast update feature is a no-feature.

You guys also missed the auto-correction toggle! Jailbreakers have been enjoying this for months, but I think it's a nice change of pace that Apple has finally caught on.

But I don't want to toggle it, as autocorrection really helps typing on the virtual keyboard. I just want the iPhone to properly remember my curse words. Until then, Apple can go to he'll.

The Mute switch on the side affects games now as well.

You also forgot to mention that when you delete an application, the iPhone asks if you want to rate it before you delete it. Pretty nice touch when there (unfortunately) are very few ratings in the Danish App Store.

I have noticed that the app store now shows multiple screenshots of the applications. I don't think this was there before.
